How to add an author bio on your blog posts in Squarespace 7.1

Squarespace’s hidden built-in author bio feature

To many Squarespace users’ disappointment, the newer versions of don’t come with a sidebar feature.

That means if you need a place to display a mini about blurb on your blog, highlight a call to action, or show off other resources, you’ll have to get creative.

You can create your own sidebar template, install a sidebar plugin, or use one of these other many features instead (including an author bio!).

I love the author bio feature because you can just set it & forget it. After you create it the first time, it will automatically show at the bottom of every blog post. No code or duplication required!

Check out the bottom of this blog post to see an example of an author bio in action.

A lot of users don’t realize this feature exists, though, because it’s pretty hidden in your Squarespace settings. So allow me to show you how to access and edit it!

Where to find the author bio in your Squarespace account

  1. The first thing you’re gonna do is actually get out of your website and back to your dashboard. You can easily do this by going to Squarespace.com and logging in or clicking your profile picture in the top right and “Dashboard” in the dropdown menu.

  2. Next, you’ll click your profile picture again and in the dropdown menu click the word “PROFILE”.

  3. There will be a pop-up window where you will see your profile pic, your name, your website, and as you continue scrolling - your BIO. This is where you can type your little about blurb!

  4. Edit these to your liking and then in the next step we will make sure it’s actually showing on your blog posts.

How to make the author profile visible on all blog posts by default

Enter back into your Squarespace site and check a blog post. If you don’t see the author profile listed at the bottom, then you still need to turn it on in your settings.

  1. Once you’re back in your website, click either “Pages” or “Website” at the top of your left menu and click on the Blog.

  2. Then click on any blog post and click “EDIT” at the top left of the page.

  3. Roll your mouse over the content until you see a little popup widget in the top right of the section that reads “EDIT SECTION”. Click that.

  4. These are your global blog post settings. So anything you change here will be reflected across all your blog posts. In the popup, you’ll find a setting that says “Show Author Profile”. Turn that on & you’re done!
